Cala de Mijas GOLF, BEACH, AND THE SENDA LITORAL

What is Cala de Mijas?

Cala de Mijas, commonly known as La Cala, is the main coastal settlement in Mijas municipality. It started as a small fishing village and has grown into a thriving residential community with a genuine year-round population. The long sandy beach, a well-maintained boardwalk, and the Senda Litoral coastal path give it an outdoor lifestyle that works twelve months a year.

The town has its own distinct identity. A compact commercial centre with restaurants, cafés, banks, and a weekly street market provides daily essentials without needing to drive to Fuengirola or Marbella. The Saturday market is one of the best on the coast, drawing visitors from across the region. Behind the town, the La Cala Golf Resort offers three championship courses set against the Sierra de Mijas.

Property ranges from beachfront apartments to hillside villas with sea views. Prices are significantly lower than Marbella but the quality of life is comparable. Families are well served with schools nearby, and the AP-7 puts Málaga airport 25 minutes away. For buyers who want coastal living with genuine community rather than resort atmosphere, La Cala is one of the strongest options on the western Costa del Sol.

La Cala has one of the most genuinely mixed communities on the coast. British and Irish residents are well established, alongside growing Scandinavian, Dutch, and Belgian populations. Spanish families live here year-round, particularly in the older parts of town. There is a strong retiree community but also an increasing number of young families and remote workers who discovered the area during the pandemic. The Saturday market, the beach chiringuitos, and the local restaurants serve as natural meeting points where nationalities mix easily.
