What is Sotogrande Alto?
Sotogrande Alto is the elevated, inland section of the Sotogrande estate, rising above the coastal strip on the far side of the A-7 motorway in San Roque, Cadiz province. Geographically it is the largest part of the resort, organised into alphabetically named zones that climb the hillside, beginning at Zones C and D, continuing through E and F, and reaching Zone G high up by the SO/ Sotogrande hotel. Anchored by Real Club Valderrama, host of the 1997 Ryder Cup and more recently of LIV Golf, it is defined by mature cork-oak woodland, rolling hills and sweeping views that, from its higher streets, stretch across the Mediterranean to the Rock of Gibraltar and, on clear days, the mountains of Morocco.nnWhile Sotogrande Alto is best known for its grand villas on large plots, it is more varied than that reputation suggests, with a mix of detached villas, townhouses and some apartments alongside the landmark estates. Architecture ranges from classic Andalusian cortijo-style homes to striking contemporary villas with floor-to-ceiling glass and infinity pools. The most coveted sea views are found in the higher F and G zones and in the Altos de Valderrama enclave. Set inland and uphill, the area enjoys a greener, breezier and more private character than the coast, bordering the cork-oak forests of Los Alcornocales.
