What is La Duquesa?
La Duquesa — officially Puerto de la Duquesa — is the marina town of Manilva municipality, built around a handsome 328-berth leisure port on the western Costa del Sol. Unlike the more ostentatious marinas of Puerto Banús or Sotogrande, La Duquesa has a genuine, lived-in character: working fishing boats still moor alongside pleasure yachts, the waterfront restaurants are frequented by locals as much as visitors, and prices for both dining and property remain among the most competitive on the coast.
The marina is organized over three levels: chandlers and moorings at water level, bars, restaurants and summer market stalls on the second tier, and a top-level promenade with sweeping views across the Strait of Gibraltar to the Rif Mountains of Morocco. On clear days the African coastline is clearly visible, a reminder that this is where Europe ends and another continent begins.
La Duquesa’s strongest selling point is its value proposition. Two-bedroom apartments here cost 25–40% less than comparable properties in Marbella, while the lifestyle offering — marina dining, beach access, golf within minutes, proximity to Gibraltar and Sotogrande — rivals areas costing significantly more. A strong British and Irish community gives the area English-friendly infrastructure, while the adjacent town of San Luis de Sabinillas provides authentic Spanish daily life: Friday markets, tapas bars and a paseo marítimo alive with families on summer evenings.
