Bahía de Casares Beachfront Casares Costa, between Doña Julia golf and the coast road

What is Bahía de Casares?

Bahía de Casares is a stretch of new-build coastline within Casares municipality, on the Costa del Sol between Estepona and Sotogrande. It takes its name from Playa Bahía de Casares, the beach that runs along this part of the coast, and it is not a single gated or branded resort but a cluster of separate residential projects built by different developers along the same stretch of coast road.

Taylor Wimpey's Solemar and Metrovacesa's Abril are the two best-known developments here, with Abril sitting close to the Doña Julia golf course; other projects such as Casares Bay and Camarate Hills have added further low-rise apartment and townhouse blocks to the area. The former Hotel Doña Julia, next to the golf course, has been earmarked for years for conversion into a Conrad-branded five-star hotel, but the project has been repeatedly delayed since it was first announced and there is no confirmed opening date — it should be treated as a planned amenity, not one currently in operation.

The area sits within easy reach of Finca Cortesín and Casares's other golf courses, and the A-7 coast road gives quick access to Estepona in one direction and Sotogrande and Gibraltar in the other. It suits buyers looking for a new-build coastal apartment near golf, rather than an old-town or hillside setting.

Who are the developers building in Bahía de Casares?

Taylor Wimpey (Solemar) and Metrovacesa (Abril) are the two major developers with projects here, alongside other, smaller-scale developments such as Casares Bay and Camarate Hills. It is a mix of separate schemes rather than one master-planned development.

Is the Conrad Costa del Sol hotel open?

Not yet confirmed. The former Hotel Doña Julia has been planned for conversion into a Conrad-branded five-star hotel for several years, with the opening pushed back more than once. Treat it as a planned, not operating, amenity until an opening date is confirmed.
