Golden Mile THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS ADDRESS ON THE COSTA DEL SOL

What is the Golden Mile?

The Golden Mile is the stretch of coast between the western edge of Marbella's old town and Puerto Banús, about six kilometres along the Bulevar Príncipe Alfonso von Hohenlohe, with the beach on one side and the foothills of La Concha on the other. It got its name from the hotels and villas built along it after the Marbella Club opened in 1954, and the name has stuck to both sides of the road: the beachfront estates and the hillside urbanisations above them are all "Golden Mile" to an estate agent.

It is the most expensive address in southern Spain. Asking prices here are close to 7,000 euros per square metre on average in 2026, the highest in Marbella, and the best beachfront apartments and hillside villas trade well above that. Our own listings on the Golden Mile are mostly villas in Rocío de Nagüeles, Sierra Blanca and Cascada de Camoján, with apartments and penthouses on the beach side at Marina Puente Romano and the beachfront estates.

Golden Mile map: beach side and hill side

The road divides the Golden Mile into two markets. Beach side, south of the bulevar, are the hotels and the low rise estates that run down to the sea: the Marbella Club and Puente Romano with their residences, Marina Puente Romano, Las Cañas Beach, Señorío de Marbella, Coral Beach, Santa Petronila, Oasis Club, Alhambra del Mar, Marbella Real and, towards Banús, Las Alamedas. These are mostly apartments, penthouses and townhouses, and the price of a home here is set by how many metres it is from the sand.

Hill side, north of the road, the land climbs quickly through Nagüeles, Rocío de Nagüeles, Altos Reales, Lomas del Rey, La Carolina and the Marbella Hill Club to Cascada de Camoján and, at the top, Sierra Blanca and Las Lomas del Marbella Club. These are villa estates, most of them gated, with sea views and plots from 1,000 to over 5,000 m². Between the two, the King Fahd mosque and the Al Riyadh estate mark where the Golden Mile meets the Saudi royal family's compound.

Golden Mile prices in 2026

Marbella's average asking price in 2026 is around 6,075 euros per square metre; on the Golden Mile it is close to 7,000, and verified sale prices across the municipality sit well below asking, nearer 3,400 per square metre according to Tinsa, so the listed figure is a starting point rather than a verdict. In practice the market works in bands: beachfront apartments in the hotel residences and the front line estates from about 1.5 million euros for a two bedroom to 10 million and more for the best penthouses; hillside villas from about 3 million in Nagüeles to 10 to 20 million in Sierra Blanca, Cascada de Camoján and Las Lomas del Marbella Club, with a handful of houses above that. Rental yields are low, 2 to 4 percent on villas, and the money is made on resale. The live range and median of what we list today are on our Marbella property page.

Hotels, beach clubs and the promenade

The Marbella Club, opened in 1954, and Puente Romano, opened in 1979, are the two hotels that made the Golden Mile and still anchor it, with Nobu, Dani García's restaurants and the Puente Romano tennis club between them; the Gran Meliá Don Pepe marks the Marbella end. The beach clubs run along the sand: MC Beach at the Marbella Club and Sea Grill and Nobu Beachside at Puente Romano among them. The Senda Litoral promenade runs the full length of the Golden Mile and links the old town to Puerto Banús on foot, about an hour's walk at an easy pace. Our post on how the Marbella Club and Puente Romano built the Golden Mile tells the history.

The Golden Mile is not the New Golden Mile

The New Golden Mile is the stretch of coast west of San Pedro and Guadalmina towards Estepona, named by developers in the 2000s to borrow the prestige. It is a different market: newer, cheaper, with more apartments and new build, and it belongs to Estepona for the most part. When a listing says Golden Mile, check which one it means.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Golden Mile in Marbella?

Between the western edge of Marbella's old town and Puerto Banús, along the Bulevar Príncipe Alfonso von Hohenlohe. It is about six kilometres long and the name covers both the beachfront estates south of the road and the hillside urbanisations north of it, up to Sierra Blanca.

Why is it called the Golden Mile?

Because of the hotels, villas and money that followed the Marbella Club after 1954. The name was in use by the 1970s and was never official; it is simply what the stretch between Marbella and Puerto Banús came to be called.

What are property prices on the Golden Mile?

Asking prices average close to 7,000 euros per square metre in 2026, the highest in Marbella. Beachfront apartments start around 1.5 million euros and reach 10 million and more for the best penthouses; hillside villas run from about 3 million in Nagüeles to 10 to 20 million in Sierra Blanca and Cascada de Camoján.

Which urbanisations are on the Golden Mile?

Beach side: the Marbella Club and Puente Romano residences, Marina Puente Romano, Las Cañas Beach, Señorío de Marbella, Coral Beach, Santa Petronila, Oasis Club, Alhambra del Mar, Marbella Real and Las Alamedas. Hill side: Nagüeles, Rocío de Nagüeles, Altos Reales, Lomas del Rey, La Carolina, Marbella Hill Club, Cascada de Camoján, Sierra Blanca and Las Lomas del Marbella Club.

Are there apartments on the Golden Mile or only villas?

Both. The beach side is mostly apartments, penthouses and townhouses in low rise estates; the hill side is almost entirely villas. Most of the apartments we sell on the Golden Mile are at Marina Puente Romano and the beachfront estates.

Is the Golden Mile walkable?

Along the seafront, yes: the promenade runs the whole length and links the old town to Puerto Banús. The hillside estates are not; they are steep, gated and built for cars.

What is the difference between the Golden Mile and the New Golden Mile?

The Golden Mile is the original stretch between Marbella and Puerto Banús. The New Golden Mile is the coast west of San Pedro towards Estepona, a newer and cheaper market that borrowed the name. They are 10 to 20 km apart.

Is there nightlife on the Golden Mile?

The hotels and beach clubs have bars and summer events, and Puerto Banús is at the western end. The Golden Mile itself is residential and quiet after dinner, which is part of its appeal.

How far is Marbella old town from the Golden Mile?

The Golden Mile starts at the edge of the old town; from the Marbella Club it is a 20 minute walk along the promenade or five minutes by car. From the Banús end it is 15 minutes by car.

Is the Golden Mile a good investment?

For capital preservation and resale, yes: there is no more land, the brands keep arriving and prices have risen most reliably here over the last decade. For rental yield, no: villas yield 2 to 4 percent. Buy here to own the address, not to run it as a business.
