What is Puerto Estepona?
Puerto Estepona is the vibrant marina district at the heart of Estepona's seafront. The port itself has 447 berths and is lined with restaurants, cafés and boutiques that create a lively waterfront atmosphere year round. Living here means having the buzz of the marina on your doorstep while being steps from the old town and the beach.
The area around the port has seen significant investment, with new apartment complexes and the renovation of older buildings adding modern housing stock to a neighbourhood that combines working fishing port character with leisure marina glamour.
The same place goes by several names. Visitors and Google call it Estepona Marina, Estepona port or Estepona harbour; on the signs and in Spanish it is the Puerto Deportivo de Estepona, run by Marina del Mediterráneo, and it shares its basin with the working fishing port. All of them mean the harbour at the western end of Playa de la Rada, five minutes on foot from the old town.
Puerto Estepona in 2026
At the time of writing (October 2026) we have three apartments for sale in the port district, one to three bedrooms, from about 325,000 euros to about 440,000 euros. The port also carries one new build project in our feed, Atelier 4, five homes from about 3.2 million euros, which shows the spread the area now has: resale flats in the blocks behind the marina at one end and a handful of large new homes at the other. What we have is on our Estepona property page and new developments in Estepona.
The marina kept its Blue Flag in 2026, for the 32nd year running, and it is the only one in Estepona this year: no beach holds a flag. The two town beaches either side of the port, La Rada to the east and El Cristo to the west, had lifeguards from 15 June to 15 September 2026, both offer free assisted bathing in summer, and El Cristo is the sheltered cove that families with small children choose. All of that is in our Estepona beaches guide.
Town wide, three things changed the sums for a port flat this year. Estepona's town hall cleared the last of its bank debt in 2025 and cut IBI again for 2026, covered in our post on the tax cuts. Hospiten Estepona, five minutes from the marina, turned its eye department into a specialised centre in summer 2026, in our Hospiten post. And the velodrome, football and rugby complex on the Monterroso side of town had its first stone laid on 15 July 2026, with completion expected during 2027, in our velodrome post.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I moor a boat in the marina?
Yes, Puerto Deportivo de Estepona has 447 berths for boats up to 35 metres. Annual and visitor berths are available.
Is the port area lively at night?
The waterfront restaurants and bars create a pleasant evening atmosphere, especially in summer. It is lively but not rowdy.
How far is the old town?
Estepona's casco antiguo is a 5-minute walk east from the port.
What are rental yields like?
Holiday rental demand is strong year-round thanks to the marina setting. Expect gross yields of 5 to 7 percent on well-managed properties.
Is parking available?
There is a public car park near the port, and many apartment complexes have underground parking.
Are there shops nearby?
The port has boutiques and convenience stores, and the main shopping streets of Estepona are a short walk away.
Is the area suitable for families?
Yes, the walkability, beach access and family-friendly restaurants make it a good choice for families. Schools are a short drive away.
What is the fish market like?
The lonja (fish auction) still operates, and you can buy fresh fish from local fishermen at the port in the mornings.
What are the best restaurants in Puerto Estepona?
La Escollera, La Gamba and Taberna del Puerto are well established options right on the marina.
Is Estepona Marina the same as Puerto Estepona?
Yes. Estepona Marina, Estepona port, Estepona harbour and Puerto Deportivo de Estepona are all the same harbour at the west end of Playa de la Rada. The leisure marina has 447 berths for boats up to 35 metres, with fuel, water and electricity on the pontoons, and the fishing port and its morning fish auction sit in the same basin.
What is Puerto Alto in Estepona?
Puerto Alto is a gated urbanisation of apartments on the rise directly behind the marina, about three minutes on foot from the pontoons, with communal gardens and two outdoor pools. It is one of the first addresses we check when a client wants to walk to the harbour and the beach without a car.
Are there boat trips from Estepona port?
Yes. Dolphin watching catamaran trips leave from the marina pontoons most days from spring to autumn. A standard trip lasts about two hours, costs around 40 euros per adult and heads a few miles out towards the Strait. Sightings are common but never guaranteed. Private charters, fishing trips and sunset sailings are booked from the same pontoons.
Are there hotels at Estepona marina?
There is no hotel inside the marina itself. The closest hotels sit along the seafront a few minutes away by car, among them the H10 Estepona Palace, the Hotel Mediterráneo, the Gran Hotel Elba with its thalasso spa and, further east on the New Golden Mile, the Kempinski Hotel Bahía. Most people who want to sleep beside the boats rent a holiday apartment in the port.
Is there a market at Estepona port?
Yes. A street market runs along the marina every Sunday morning, roughly 9:00 to 14:00, selling clothes, bags, jewellery and crafts. The second hand and antiques rastro takes place the same morning at the bullring, a short walk inland.
Can I buy an apartment in Estepona marina?
Yes. Apartments and penthouses inside the port complex and in the urbanisations behind it, Puerto Alto among them, come to market regularly, and they are the most reliable holiday let stock in Estepona because guests can walk to everything. Ask us for the current list; the port is small enough that we know most of the buildings by name.
Which beach is closest to Estepona port?
El Cristo, about 500 metres west of the marina: a sheltered 680 metre cove with calm water, lifeguards in summer and free assisted bathing. La Rada starts at the eastern side of the port and runs 2.6 kilometres east with the promenade, beach bars and water sports. Both are in our Estepona beaches guide.
Does Estepona marina have a Blue Flag?
Yes. In 2026 the marina kept its Blue Flag for the 32nd year running. It is the only Blue Flag in Estepona this year; none of the town's beaches holds one.
