The study, closed on 14 July, compares Spain’s twenty largest recreational marinas on a single, objective measure: the number of operational berths in the water. The national top four are Marina d’Empuriabrava in Girona with 5,000 moorings, Port de la Rapita in Tarragona with 1,825, Puerto Deportivo Tomas Maestre in Murcia with 1,721, and Marina dels Canals de Santa Margarida, also in Girona, with 1,598. Puerto Sotogrande completes the top five.

First in Andalusia, by a clear margin

Within Andalusia, the gap is comfortable. Benalmadena follows with 1,025 berths, then Almerimar with 997, Puerto Banus with 915 and Puerto Sherry with 872. In the province of Cadiz, only Puerto Sherry joins Sotogrande in the national top twenty.

The report is careful about what it measures. The ranking counts wet berths only, leaving aside service quality, occupancy, dry storage capacity and planned expansions. That honesty cuts both ways for Sotogrande: the marina’s real offering includes technical services, sailing schools, sports activity, restaurants, shops and a social calendar woven into the life of the resort, none of which shows up in the number.
