What is Guadalmina Baja?

Guadalmina Baja sits on the coastal strip between San Pedro de Alcántara and Puerto Banús, wrapped around Real Club de Golf Guadalmina's South course and running down to the beach. The name distinguishes it from Guadalmina Alta, the hillier residential area further inland across the A-7 - Baja is the low, flat part closer to the sea. Villas and townhouse developments here date mostly from the 1970s onward, many built around the golf course itself, with newer construction filling in plots closer to the coast.

The South course was laid out by Javier Arana in 1959 - the second oldest course on the Costa del Sol - and remodelled in depth in 2002 with new irrigation, greens and tees. The North course, a hillier Folco Nardi design across the main road, followed in 1973; both share a clubhouse whose tennis and padel courts were fully renovated in 2022. The Hotel Guadalmina Spa & Golf Resort anchors the seafront end, and San Pedro de Alcántara's town centre - pedestrianised Calle Marqués del Duero, a daily market, everyday shops - is a short drive away, with Puerto Banús close enough for a night out without living in the middle of it.

Residents are a mix of international owners (British and Scandinavian buyers are well represented) and Spanish families, drawn by the combination of golf, direct beach access, and a quieter pace than Marbella's more built-up central beachfront. It works as both a permanent home base and a golf-holiday property, with a good share of long-term rentals alongside owner-occupiers.

One of the Coast's Oldest Golf Addresses

Real Club de Golf Guadalmina's South course, designed by Javier Arana in 1959, was only the second course built on the Costa del Sol. The North course followed in 1973, giving the area a genuine 36-hole golf heritage rather than a resort built around a single modern layout - and both courses got fully renovated tennis and padel facilities in 2022.

A Beachfront That Has Been Reinvesting

The Guadalmina Baja seafront has seen a wave of renovation in recent years - Barbillón reopened in 2023 after a full refit, and newer openings like the Japanese-Mediterranean restaurant Dajidali sit alongside long-established names like El Pescador, giving the beachfront a more polished feel than it had a decade ago while keeping the golf-and-beach pace that residents come for.

Guadalmina Baja in 2026

Stock inside Guadalmina Baja is as thin as it always is, because owners here sell rarely. At the time of writing (October 2026) we have one villa tagged to it, a seven bedroom house at about 4.95 million euros, on our San Pedro de Alcántara property page. There is no new development inside the estate; the nearest is Breeze across the road in Guadalmina Alta, four homes from about 690,000, and the San Pedro and Marbella projects are on our Marbella new developments page. The Sur course, by Javier Arana in 1959, runs through the estate down to the sea, 18 holes top out around 180 euros and the club has more than 2,000 members of 17 nationalities, in our golf courses guide.
