Casares & Manilva

Casares and Manilva sit at the quiet western edge of the Costa del Sol, where Málaga province meets Cádiz. No high-rises, no crowds, just whitewashed hilltop villages, unspoiled beaches and some of the best-value property left on the coast. They are two separate municipalities – Casares with 9,009 residents (January 2025) and Manilva with 18,818 (2024, spanning 93 nationalities) – that share a coastline, an estate agents’ shorthand and a similar laid-back character.

La zone s'étend de La Duquesa marina à l'ouest jusqu'au Finca Cortesín estate inland, with the dramatic pueblo blanco of Casares watching from its mountaintop perch. Casares village grew up around a 12th-century Moorish castle; after the fall of nearby Ronda in 1485 it passed to Rodrigo Ponce de León, Duke of Cádiz. It’s also the birthplace of Blas Infante, the figure regarded as the father of Andalusian regional identity. Every spring, once the rains pass, residents whitewash their houses again, the ritual that gives every pueblo blanco its name.

Finca Cortesín and the New Golf Corridor

Finca Cortesín brought global attention when it hosted the 2023 Solheim Cup, the first time the women’s golf event was held in Spain – but the area had been building quietly for years. Note that the long-planned Conrad Costa del Sol hotel on the former Hotel Doña Julia site remains under construction, with no confirmed opening date despite several announced targets since 2019 – treat it as a future amenity, not a current one.

Chullera has one of the last unspoiled beaches on the coast. On the dining side, Kabuki Raw at Finca Cortesín – which held a Michelin star from 2017 to 2019 and remains a Michelin Guide-listed restaurant – anchors the area’s fine-dining reputation.

Les biens vont d'appartements à 150 000 € près de La Duquesa à des domaines à 8 M€ au sein de Finca Cortesín. Average asking prices in 2026 run around €4,068-€4,646/m² in Casares (highest near Finca Cortesín, lowest around Doña Julia) and €3,409-€3,584/m² in Manilva – among the most accessible entry points left on the western Costa del Sol. Seven distinct zones, each with its own personality and price band.

Questions fréquentes

Are Casares and Manilva the same place?

No – they’re two separate municipalities that sit next to each other at the western end of the Costa del Sol, sharing a coastline and generally being marketed together by agents. Casares has 9,009 residents (2025) centred on the hilltop pueblo blanco and its coastal strip; Manilva has 18,818 (2024) and includes Sabinillas and San Luis de Sabinillas.

Is Casares/Manilva good value compared to Marbella or Estepona?

Yes, significantly. Average asking prices run around €4,068-€4,646/m² in Casares and €3,409-€3,584/m² in Manilva, well below Estepona (roughly €4,100-€4,800/m²) and Marbella (average asking closer to €6,000/m²). Prices near Finca Cortesín run higher than the area average, but the wider municipality remains one of the best-value stretches of coast left.

Is the Conrad Costa del Sol hotel in Casares open?

Not yet. The long-planned Hilton-branded hotel, a conversion of the former Hotel Doña Julia, has been delayed repeatedly since first announced in 2019 and has no confirmed opening date. Treat it as a future amenity under construction, not a currently operating one.

What is Casares village known for?

It’s one of Andalucía’s classic pueblo blancos – a whitewashed hilltop village built around a 12th-century Moorish castle, freshly whitewashed each spring. It’s also the birthplace of Blas Infante, regarded as the father of Andalusian regional identity.

What golf is available around Casares and Manilva?

Finca Cortesín, which hosted the 2023 Solheim Cup (the first time the event was held in Spain), is the standout course. Doña Julia Golf, Casares Costa Golf, Duquesa Golf and Alcaidesa Links are all also within the two municipalities or their immediate border.
