Guadalobón Beachfront strip where the Guadalobón reaches the sea, west of Estepona town

Qu est-ce que Guadalobón?

Guadalobón is the coastal stretch where the Arroyo Guadalobón meets the Mediterranean, about 4 km west of Estepona's old town along the N-340/AP-7 coast road. The name covers the beach itself (Playa de Guadalobón) and the residential cluster above it, known locally as Urbanización Altos de Guadalobón, within the wider hamlet of Saladavieja. It sits directly next to Costa Natura, Spain's first official naturist resort, which opened here in 1979 and remains the area's main landmark.

The housing is low-rise: apartment blocks and a scattering of villas built in phases from the 1980s onward along the coast road, with no high-rise development. The beach is a working local beach rather than a resort strip — quieter than Estepona's town beaches, with direct access from the A-7, popular with residents for swimming and walking rather than as a tourist draw.

Being on the coast road puts Guadalobón within easy reach of both directions: Estepona's old town and port are about 4 km east, and San Pedro de Alcántara and Marbella are reachable along the same AP-7 corridor to the northeast. It suits owners who want to be outside the town centre but still car-dependent for shops, schools and everyday errands, since there is no rail link and the nearest supermarkets are a short drive away.

Qui vit a Guadalobón?

A mix of long-term residents and retirees in the apartment blocks above the beach, plus owners connected to Costa Natura's holiday-let apartments next door. It is not a golf or new-build hotspot like the areas further inland (Valle Romano, Estepona Golf) — the draw here is direct beach access on the coast road rather than proximity to any golf course.
