What is Punta Plata?
Punta Plata is a tranquil stretch of coastline west of Estepona town, where low-density urbanisations sit between the old N-340 road and the sea. The area has a distinctly laid-back character, with wide beaches, minimal traffic and a feeling of being slightly off the beaten track.
Development here is sparse compared to the bustling areas closer to the port, which is precisely the attraction. Buyers looking for peace, direct beach access and a sense of space find Punta Plata appealing. Estepona centre is about 10 minutes east by car, while Casares Costa begins just a few kilometres to the west.
Punta Plata in 2026
Two new projects have changed the stock here. Ayana, three homes from about 965,000 euros, and Lagumare41, four from about 490,000, are both tagged to Punta Plata in our listings, on our Estepona new developments page. On resale we do not have a home tagged to Punta Plata on the day of writing, so the older urbanisations appear with the rest of the town on our Estepona property page. The beach, Punta de la Plata, is 2,300 metres long and 5 to 15 metres wide, sand and gravel, no services and no lifeguard, and never busy because La Rada next door takes the crowds; Punta Pinillos at the end of the promenade is the quiet corner ten minutes from town, both in our Estepona beaches guide. Town matters because you can walk to it: the promenade runs from Punta Pinillos the full 2.6 kilometres of La Rada to the port. Estepona cut property tax again for 2026, with the average IBI bill down 50 percent since 2012, in our post on the tax cuts, and Hospiten Estepona opened a specialist eye centre in the summer, in our Hospiten post. The neighbours have their own guides: Huerta Nueva and Los Llanos at the edge of town, El Padrón and El Velerín east along the coast, and the town in our Estepona guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Punta Plata isolated?
It is quiet and low-density, but Estepona town is only 10 minutes by car. It feels secluded without being remote.
What is the beach like?
Wide and sandy with fewer visitors than Estepona's main beaches. Some rocky sections offer good snorkelling.
Are there shops or restaurants within walking distance?
Very few. A car is essential for daily shopping and most dining options.
What are property prices?
Generally more affordable than central Estepona, with apartments from around u20ac180,000 and villas from u20ac400,000.
Is the area developing?
Development is slow and controlled. The low-density character is protected by planning regulations, which preserves the peaceful atmosphere.
Is it close to Casares?
Casares Costa begins just west of Punta Plata. The hilltop village of Casares is about 20 minutes inland.
Is there public transport?
Limited. An infrequent bus service runs along the old coast road, but most residents rely on cars.
Can I walk to Estepona?
The Senda Litoral coastal path connects to Estepona, but it is about 5 km, so most people drive.
What new developments are there in Punta Plata?
Two in our stock: Ayana, three homes from about 965,000 euros, and Lagumare41, four homes from about 490,000. Both are small projects on the strip between the coast road and the beach, east of the town promenade.
Is Punta de la Plata beach good for swimming?
It is long, narrow and quiet, with sand and gravel and no services, so it suits people who want space rather than sunbeds. There is no lifeguard; the nearest beach with one is La Rada, next door to the west, which also has the promenade, showers and chiringuitos.
Can you walk from Punta Plata into Estepona?
Yes. The promenade starts at Punta Pinillos, at the eastern end of the urbanisation, and runs flat along La Rada for 2.6 kilometres to the port and the old town, about 30 minutes on foot. Buses on the coast road also stop at the entrance.
